RHODIUM BLACKENED STERLING HIPPO (with Emerald eyes)
RHODIUM BLACKENED STERLING HIPPO (with Emerald eyes)
ABOUT: Hand-sculpted, solid Rhodium blackened Sterling Silver hippo with Emerald Nano stone eyes, in two sizes: Large "Statement” size, approx. 1.4” long, and “Mini” size, approx. 1” long
INSPIRATION: the ancient Egyptian Goddess Taweret, known as a protective deity for women and children, and the ancient blue faience Hippopotamus from Egypt, from 1961 BC nicknamed ‘William’. He was seen as a symbol of rebirth and is now the mascot for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
The Hippo pendant was my first jewelry project after many years of sculpting large Bronze pieces (see gallery of large works under menu). I have always loved hippos with their strangely endearing and iconic shape and their rounded contours, and then I found out the hippopotamus was revered as a protective deity for women and children in several ancient cultures, due to its fiercely maternal nature. The perfect little companion!
